Job Title: Communications Officer / Specialist – Nigeria IHP

Project Overview and Role
- USAID Nigeria IHP Project, a $225 Million USAID-funded contract implemented by Palladium, IHP is an integrated health program with an expanded effort with the Government of Nigeria (GON) to identify and support rapid scale-up of proven interventions through improvement of service delivery and strengthening of health systems. It focuses its support for service delivery in six intervention areas, family planning, malaria, routine immunization, nutrition, maternal/newborn health, and treatment of childhood pneumonia/diarrhea.
- This program works closely with state-level government officials in Bauchi, Kebbi, Sokoto, Ebonyi, and the FCT to support established state-level Health and Development Plans, build capacity, and promote ownership of interventions, systems, and results.
- IHP is seeking a vibrant professional who enjoys creating dynamic stories, photos and graphics that tell a story. This individual will be responsible to building and maintaining an active digital presence for the project. They will help IHP document its legacy.
- The position is based in Abuja Country Office and reports directly to the IHP Knowledge Management Manager. The Communications Officer will help staff in the field to collect and tell their stories by taking photos, interviewing stakeholders, and promoting these stories. As a valued member of the team, the officer will help the program strengthen and maintain its reputation and high visibility.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities

- Prepare success stories, blogs, and newsletter contributions that tell the IHP story
- Assist with content discovery and collection, including photography, interviews, and research
- Maintain an active presence on social media using photos and graphics to increase visibility of USAID’s brand and IHP’s work and achievements
- Manage and deliver the quarterly newsletter
- Maintain a photo library of high-quality photos of IHP events and activities appropriately labeled with captions
- Organize and promote project events and initiatives, conference sessions and panels, and set up display exhibits at events
- Support technical and MEL events, exhibits, global and national day celebrations, and workshops, including taking high quality photographs during events and visits to the project intervention sites
- Support the Palladium HQ Communications Manager for such activities as IHP video contracts, presentations, and development of communications materials
- Assist the KM Manager to provide writing and editing support to help the team complete high-quality reports
- Help the team with ad-hoc tasks as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Health, International Relations or a related field
- 2-3 years of experience working as a communications officer, technical editor and/or writer in a professional setting
- Knowledgeable of international or national development, health systems and public health technical concepts
- Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills
- Experience translating technical documentation into easy to digest content
- Proven ability to effectively use and manage multiple social media platforms to enhance visibility of organizations and projects
- Proven ability to facilitate large groups to deliver inclusive and strategic communications products
- Proven ability to work collaboratively and build consensus across diverse sets of stakeholders
- Ability to maintain files, databases, and systems relevant to the media presence
- Effective organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task and work in a high-pressure environment
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (SharePoint, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
- Ability to manage work and make decisions on their own, as well as with a team
