- Our client is seeking to hire a HR – Crewing Officer to provide support services in Human Resources/Crewing functions such as Recruitment, Manpower Planning, Updating and Maintaining Employee Records, assisting with Payroll processes, and ensuring that the vessels are adequately manned with qualified seafarers.
- To ensure that the company has the right mix of talent that is effectively deployed, managed, rewarded, and engaged in a cost-effective and sustainable manner.
- Ensure that crew are selected carefully based on high standards with their certificates in place and efficiently administer the crewing function, contributing significantly to building the SSL business.
- To provide high internal and external customer service and always maintain a customer-focused approach.
- To treat all information acquired through the employment, formally and informally, in strict confidence.
- Strict rules and protocols define employees’ access to the company’s databases and the use of the information contained.
- Breach of these rules and protocols will be subject to disciplinary investigation.
- There are internal procedures for employees to raise matters of concern regarding such issues as bad practice or mismanagement.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
The HR & Crewing Officer is required to:
- Assist the HR/ Crewing Coordinator with all crewing processes and procedures.
- Support the HR/Crewing Coordinator to handle monthly crew mobilization and rotation for all vessels.
- Handle crew logistics and accommodation and pre-inform crew onboarding date/ location monthly.
- Support the HR/ Crewing Coordinator with monthly interfacing with the manning agent.
- Upload crew documents biannually on the crewing portal based on the charterer’s requirements.
- Liaise with the issuing authorities to verify and authenticate crew certificates and licenses.
- Regularly update the seafarers’ pool with qualified seafarers, which can be drawn from to man vessels in the SSL fleet.
- Support the coordination of staff Offshore Safety Permit card renewal yearly.
- Update crew database quarterly and in accordance with client’s requirements.
- Handle all administrative tasks related to the biannual appraisal exercise for all staff.
- Support the prompt processing of payroll monthly.
- Liaise with the HMO/ Medical retainership for staff upon request.
- Assist in conducting recruitment, selection, placement, and onboarding when assigned.
- Conduct exit interviews for junior personnel.
- Work with the HR/Crewing Coordinator to keep a record of and process staff leave requests and approval.
- Involved in handling staff complaints/ grievances and escalating to management when required.
- Assist in renewing Organisational statutory certificates (PENCOM, GROUP LIFE, NSITF, ITF, etc.) and Vessel certificates yearly.
- Draft internal and external memos and letters when required to do so.
- Involved in community relations interface.
- Be responsible for your health and safety and that of others affected by your actions at work.
- Other duties as assigned by Executive Management.

Job Requirements
- University Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Public Relations, and communication or other related/relevant area. A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
- Relevant professional qualifications such as CIPM, CIPD, SHRM, or HRCI certifications will be advantageous.
- A Professional Diploma in Crew Management is desired.
- 2 – 3 years cognate work experience in HR practice and Crewing in a reputable Marine and/or structured business environment.
- Ability to listen, negotiate, influence all categories of people, and act calmly and reasonably even under pressure.
- Excellent communication skills.
