Job Title: Qualitative Researcher
Locations: Abuja, Kebbi, Lagos & Rivers
Period of Engagement: 3 weeks ((June 5th to 23rd, 2023))
Summary
- The objective for the qualitative researchers is to collect data and gather in-depth insights into the behavioral aspects of Monkeypox transmission, prevention, and control.
- Their role is crucial in supporting the research activity and contributing to the development of effective strategies to combat the infectious disease.
Scope of Work
- The consultant will work closely with the RCCE technical team of Breakthrough ACTION-Nigeria to carry out qualitative data collection on specific themes.
- This will be done concurrently in the following states: Kebbi, Lagos, FCT, and Rivers
Responsibilities
- Conduct qualitative data collection activities, including interviews, focus group discussions, and observations, following the approved research protocols and guidelines.
- Engage with individuals and communities in the selected areas (Kebbi, Lagos, FCT, and Rivers) to gather relevant information on Monkeypox behaviors, perceptions, and practices.
- Facilitate open and meaningful discussions to explore behavioral patterns, risk factors, and key drivers associated with Monkeypox transmission.
- Ensure confidentiality and ethical considerations throughout the data collection process.
- Take detailed notes, audio recordings, and/or visual documentation as required during data collection sessions.
- Assist in the translation and transcription of qualitative data, ensuring accuracy and maintaining the context of the information collected.
- Collaborate with the research team and consultants to provide timely updates and reports on the progress of data collection activities.
- Adhere to the project timeline and deliverables, completing assigned tasks within the agreed-upon timeframe.
- Maintain professionalism and respect cultural sensitivities while engaging with research participants.
Deliverables
- Complete and accurate qualitative data collection, including interview transcripts, field notes, and observation reports.
- Timely submission of data collection updates and progress reports.
- Active participation in team meetings and discussions.
Minimum Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum of five years of experience conducting qualitative analysis for health-related development projects.
- Strong experience in qualitative data collection techniques, such as interviews and focus group discussions.
- Good understanding of public health and behavioral research principles.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with diverse individuals and communities.
- Proficiency in local languages spoken in the selected areas (Kebbi, Lagos, FCT, and Rivers) for effective communication with participants- Hausa required for Kebbi and FCT applicants, Yoruba in Lagos, and Pidgin English in Rivers state.
- Attention to detail and ability to document data accurately.
- Familiarity with research ethics and confidentiality protocols.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Ability to conduct literature review on specified theme.
- Fluency in English language (Spoken and written)
- Proof of previous experiences collecting qualitative data.
- Ability to mobilize resources and deliver within specified timeline.
